Mammalian target of rapamycin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006943
A serine/threonine protein kinase that integrates signals from nutrients, growth factors, and cellular energy status to control processes like cell proliferation, protein synthesis, and autophagy. This enzyme is a central regulator of metabolism and physiology in mammals. The immunosuppressive drug rapamycin (sirolimus) and its derivatives function by forming a complex that inhibits the activity of this kinase.
