Immunoglobulin Y
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005683
A class of antibody found in birds, reptiles, and amphibians, functionally equivalent to mammalian immunoglobulin G (IgG). It is the major antibody transferred from a hen to the egg yolk, providing passive immunity to the developing embryo and hatchling. Unlike mammalian IgG, IgY does not bind protein A or protein G and does not activate mammalian complement.
