Vitellogenin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012598
A precursor protein to egg yolk, synthesized in the liver of oviparous (egg-laying) vertebrates, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, and birds. Its production is typically induced by estrogen and serves as a biomarker for exposure to estrogenic endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Elevated levels in male fish, for example, indicate feminization.
