Endocrine disrupter

A substance or mixture from outside the body that changes how the endocrine system works and, as a result, harms the health of an intact organism, its offspring or a population subgroup. Such chemicals mimic or block natural hormones, or interfere with their synthesis, transport or metabolism. Bisphenol A, a weak estrogen mimic used in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins, is a well-known example.
