Feminization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004373
The development of female secondary sexual characteristics in a male organism, or the accentuation of such traits in a female. This process results from a shift in the balance of sex hormones, specifically an increase in estrogen activity or a decrease in androgen activity. Exposure to certain environmental chemicals, known as endocrine disruptors, can induce feminization in wildlife populations, particularly in fish and amphibians.
