Sex chromosome

A chromosome that determines the sex of an individual, distinguishing it from an autosome. In humans, these are the X and Y chromosomes, with XX typically resulting in female development and XY in male development. These chromosomes carry genes that influence the development of reproductive organs and secondary sexual characteristics.
