Y chromosome

One of the two sex chromosomes in humans and many other mammals, present in one copy in males (XY) and absent in females (XX). It carries the SRY gene, which is responsible for initiating male sexual development. In humans, the Y chromosome contains relatively few genes, approximately 50-60.
