Synteny
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011767
The conserved arrangement of genes on chromosomes between two or more different species, indicating a common evolutionary ancestor. This concept describes how blocks of genes have remained in the same relative order on a chromosome throughout evolution, even as species diverged. For example, large segments of human chromosome 17 show synteny with regions of mouse chromosome 11, containing many of the same genes in the same sequence.
