Robertsonian translocation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010394
A specific type of chromosomal rearrangement that involves the fusion of two acrocentric chromosomes at their centromeres, with the loss of their short arms. This results in a single, larger chromosome and a reduction in the total chromosome number, though the genetic material is largely conserved. It is observed in approximately 1 in 1000 live births.
