Chromosomal abnormality

A deviation from the normal number or structure of chromosomes within a cell. These abnormalities can involve changes in chromosome number, such as aneuploidy, or alterations in chromosome structure, such as deletions or translocations. Such changes are often associated with developmental disorders, birth defects, or an increased risk of certain diseases.
