Chromosome deletion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002056
A chromosomal abnormality in which a chromosome, or part of one, is lost. Terminal deletions remove the end of a chromosome arm and interstitial deletions remove a segment from within an arm. Clinical effects depend on the size of the lost region and the genes it carries, as in cri-du-chat syndrome, which results from loss of part of the short arm of chromosome 5.
