Syntectic reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011766
An invariant reaction in which two separate liquid phases of different composition react on cooling to give one solid phase. It occurs in binary systems with a liquid miscibility gap, as in potassium-zinc, where K-rich and Zn-rich liquids form the compound KZn13. The reaction cannot occur above the temperature at which that solid melts without changing composition.
