Miscibility gap

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007410

The region of a temperature-composition or pressure-composition phase diagram, enclosed by the coexistence (binodal) curve, in which a mixture separates into two or more coexisting phases. In polymer blends it forms below an upper consolute temperature or above a lower consolute temperature. The spinodal curve lies inside the gap and divides metastable states from unstable ones.
