Peritectic reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008657
An invariant reaction in a phase diagram where a liquid phase and a solid phase react isothermally to form a new, different solid phase upon cooling. This process occurs at a specific temperature and composition, where three phases coexist in equilibrium. The resulting solid often has a different crystal structure or composition than the initial solid.
