Yang photocyclization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012773

A photochemical reaction involving the intramolecular cyclization of a γ-keto aldehyde or ketone to form a cyclobutanol. This process typically proceeds via a Norrish Type II reaction, where a hydrogen atom is abstracted from the γ-carbon by the excited carbonyl oxygen. The resulting 1,4-biradical then undergoes cyclization to form the four-membered ring alcohol.
