Alcohols
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000369
Organic compounds characterized by the presence of one or more hydroxyl (-OH) functional groups attached to a saturated carbon atom. They are classified as primary, secondary, or tertiary based on the number of alkyl groups attached to the carbon bearing the hydroxyl group. Ethanol, CH3CH2OH, is a common example.
