Sex chromatin

A condensed, inactive X chromosome observed in the somatic cells of female mammals, also known as a Barr body. This structure represents the inactivated X chromosome that undergoes Lyonization to achieve dosage compensation between sexes. The presence or absence of sex chromatin can be used for sex determination.
