Primary sex organ

An organ that produces gametes, the reproductive cells of an organism. In vertebrates, these organs are the gonads: the testes in males, which produce sperm, and the ovaries in females, which produce eggs. These organs are distinguished from accessory sex organs, which are involved in reproduction but do not produce gametes.
