Autosome
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001009
Any chromosome within a diploid cell that is not a sex chromosome (allosome). These chromosomes occur in homologous pairs, with one member of each pair inherited from each parent. In humans, there are 22 pairs of autosomes, which carry the genetic information for the majority of the body's traits and functions, numbered 1 through 22 in descending order of size.
