Diploid

Describing a cell or organism that contains two complete sets of chromosomes, one set inherited from each parent. In humans, somatic cells are diploid, possessing 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs. This contrasts with haploid cells, such as gametes, which contain only one set of chromosomes.
