Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012825

The union of two gametes to form a zygote during the process of fertilization. This event involves the fusion of the cell membranes and cytoplasm of the gametes, followed by the fusion of their nuclei to combine their genetic material. The resulting diploid zygote contains a complete set of chromosomes, one set from each parent gamete.
