Pronucleus

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009543

The haploid nucleus of a sperm or egg cell during fertilization, before the fusion of the two nuclei to form a diploid zygote nucleus. After sperm entry into the egg, the sperm nucleus decondenses to form the male pronucleus, while the egg completes meiosis to form the female pronucleus. The two pronuclei then migrate towards each other and fuse.
