Meiosis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007145
A specialized type of cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes in a parent diploid cell by half to produce four haploid cells. This process involves two rounds of division, known as meiosis I and meiosis II, and includes the pairing of homologous chromosomes and crossing over. In sexually reproducing organisms, it generates gametes like sperm and egg cells.
