Nondisjunction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008018

The improper segregation of chromosomes or chromatids during cell division, leading to an unequal distribution of genetic material into daughter cells. This error can occur during meiosis I, meiosis II, or mitosis. It results in aneuploidy, a condition where cells have an abnormal number of chromosomes, such as in Down syndrome.
