Polyploidy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009228

The condition in which an organism or cell contains more than two complete sets of chromosomes. This genetic state results from errors during cell division, such as nondisjunction, or from hybridization events. Polyploidy is common in plants and can lead to increased cell size and altered phenotypic traits, but it is generally lethal in humans.
