Secondary oocyte

A haploid female gamete that results from the completion of meiosis I in the primary oocyte, containing most of the cytoplasm. This cell then proceeds to meiosis II, which arrests at metaphase II and is only completed upon fertilization by a sperm. It is the cell released during ovulation.
