Homologous recombination
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013159
A genetic recombination process where nucleotide sequences are exchanged between two similar or identical DNA molecules. This mechanism is vital for DNA repair, particularly in fixing double-strand breaks, and for generating genetic diversity during meiosis. It involves the pairing of homologous chromosomes and the enzymatic exchange of segments.
