Somatic gene conversion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011044
A non-reciprocal transfer of genetic information from one DNA sequence to another homologous sequence within a somatic cell, resulting in the alteration of the recipient sequence. This process can contribute to genetic diversity, particularly in the immune system, where it is a mechanism for generating antibody diversity in some species. It involves the repair of a double-strand break using a homologous template.
