Somatic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011041
Relating to the non-reproductive cells of an organism, encompassing all body cells except for germ cells (sperm and egg cells) and their precursors. Somatic cells constitute the vast majority of an organism's tissues and organs, and their genetic material is typically passed on only through cell division within the individual. Changes in somatic cells are not heritable by offspring.
