Germ line cell

A cell belonging to the lineage that ultimately produces gametes, such as sperm or egg cells. These cells are distinct from somatic cells because they transmit genetic information to the next generation. Examples include primordial germ cells and their differentiated derivatives like spermatogonia and oogonia.
