Somatic death

The irreversible cessation of all vital functions of the entire organism, including respiration, circulation, and brain activity. This is distinct from cellular death, which can occur in individual cells or tissues after the organism as a whole has died. Somatic death is the legal and medical definition of death, after which the body can no longer maintain homeostasis.
