Diplopia
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003233
The perception of a single object as two separate images, also known as double vision. This visual disturbance results from a misalignment of the eyes, where each eye sends a slightly different image to the brain, which cannot fuse them into a single perception. Exposure to certain neurotoxic substances, such as lead, mercury, or some organic solvents, can induce diplopia by damaging the cranial nerves or muscles that coordinate eye movements.
