Di-π-methane rearrangement

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003234

A photochemical reaction involving a 1,4-diene or a related system with a central sp3-hybridized carbon atom, which undergoes rearrangement upon electronic excitation. The reaction typically proceeds through a diradical intermediate, leading to the formation of a vinylcyclopropane derivative. This rearrangement is a common pathway for the photochemistry of certain unsaturated compounds.
