Oxa-di-π-methane rearrangement

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008388

A photochemical reaction involving a 1,4-diene system containing an oxygen atom within the diene framework, which undergoes rearrangement upon irradiation to form a cyclopropyl ketone. This reaction is analogous to the di-π-methane rearrangement but with an oxygen atom replacing one of the carbon atoms in the diene system. It proceeds through a triplet excited state and involves a series of radical intermediates.
