Rearrangement ion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009998
A fragment ion formed in a mass spectrometer that has undergone a structural reorganization of its atoms, often involving bond breaking and formation, prior to or during fragmentation. This rearrangement leads to a different connectivity of atoms than would be expected from simple bond cleavage of the precursor ion. The detection of such ions provides insights into the fragmentation mechanisms of molecules under electron ionization conditions.
