Polyatomic fragment
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009108
A cluster of two or more atoms that remains intact after a molecule has undergone ionization and fragmentation in a mass spectrometer. These fragments carry a charge and are detected as distinct ions, providing structural information about the original molecule. The detection of specific polyatomic fragments can be used for molecular identification.
