Plasma desorption ionization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009008

A soft ionization technique used in mass spectrometry where ions are produced from a solid sample by bombarding it with energetic fission fragments from a radioactive source, typically californium-252. This method is suitable for analyzing large, thermally labile biomolecules. It generates intact molecular ions with minimal fragmentation.
