Field desorption
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013103
An ionization technique in mass spectrometry where a strong electric field is applied to a sample deposited on an emitter, causing molecules to desorb and ionize directly from the solid or liquid phase. This method is particularly useful for analyzing non-volatile, thermally labile, or high molecular weight compounds. It minimizes fragmentation, yielding predominantly molecular ions.
