Laser desorption

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006457

The process of transferring molecules from a solid or liquid phase into the gas phase by irradiating the sample with a laser beam. The laser energy causes rapid heating and vaporization of the sample, releasing intact molecules into the vacuum. This technique is often coupled with mass spectrometry for the analysis of non-volatile and thermally labile compounds.
