Atmospheric pressure matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000885

An ionization method in mass spectrometry where a sample, embedded in a matrix, is desorbed and ionized by a laser pulse at atmospheric pressure. The matrix absorbs the laser energy, transferring it to the analyte molecules, which then become ionized. This technique is particularly effective for analyzing large, non-volatile biomolecules such as proteins and polymers.
