Surface-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011671

A variant of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization in which the matrix is a combination of a liquid and a particulate solid, such as graphite or nanoparticles suspended in ethane-1,2-diol (ethylene glycol), instead of a crystalline organic matrix. It is applied mainly to small molecules. Graphite was the first particulate matrix used, and nanoparticle matrices came later.
