Desorption ionization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003070
A class of ionization methods in which gas-phase ions are formed directly at the surface of a solid or liquid sample by activation with heat, a strong electric field, particles, droplets, or photons. Examples include matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization, secondary ion mass spectrometry, fast atom bombardment and desorption electrospray ionization, but not conventional electrospray, which draws ions from a flowing solution.
