Desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003069
An ambient ionization method for mass spectrometry where a charged solvent spray is directed onto a sample surface. The impact of the electrospray droplets desorbs and ionizes analytes directly from the surface, allowing them to be analyzed with little to no sample preparation. This technique is distinct from electrospray ionization (ESI) because the sample is not introduced as a solution but is analyzed in its native state on a solid or liquid surface.
