Ambient ionization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000472

A class of mass spectrometry ionization techniques that allow for the direct analysis of samples in their native state, without extensive sample preparation or a vacuum environment. These methods typically involve generating ions at atmospheric pressure outside the mass spectrometer. Examples include desorption electrospray ionization (DESI) and direct analysis in real time (DART).
