Ambient air quality

The condition of the outdoor atmosphere with respect to the presence of pollutants. It is assessed by measuring the concentrations of specific substances such as particulate matter, ozone, and nitrogen oxides. Regulatory bodies establish standards for ambient air quality to protect human health and the environment.
