Ambient air

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012858

The surrounding outdoor air in the troposphere, accessible to the general public, as distinguished from indoor air or air at a specific emission source. Its composition is a baseline for assessing air pollution and is subject to monitoring for criteria pollutants. National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) in the United States define the maximum allowable concentrations for pollutants like ozone, particulate matter, and sulfur dioxide.
