Ambient monitoring

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000474

The systematic and continuous measurement of pollutants or other substances within a surrounding environmental medium like air, water, or soil. This process is conducted to determine the extent of pollution, evaluate compliance with environmental quality standards, and assess potential exposure to human and ecological receptors. Data from ambient monitoring stations are used to track trends over time and to validate atmospheric dispersion models.
