Laser ablation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006454
A technique for removing material from a sample by focusing a high-intensity pulsed laser beam onto its surface. The interaction causes localized heating, vaporization, and ejection of a small amount of the sample, creating a plume of atoms, ions, and particles. This method is widely used in analytical chemistry for micro-sampling solids for subsequent analysis by mass spectrometry or atomic emission spectroscopy.
