Ablation rate

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000042

The depth of sample layer removed per unit time in glow discharge sputtering, usually expressed in nanometres per second. It depends on the discharge conditions and on the sputtering yield of the sample material, and it converts sputtering time into depth in depth-profile measurements. Laser ablation work quotes removal as mass or volume per pulse instead.
