Fast-atom bombardment mass spectrometry
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013094
A soft ionization technique used in mass spectrometry to analyze non-volatile, thermally labile, or high molecular weight compounds. A beam of high-energy neutral atoms, such as xenon or argon, bombards a sample dissolved in a liquid matrix, causing desorption and ionization. This method is particularly effective for analyzing peptides, carbohydrates, and organometallic compounds.
